Thank you to all who attended our Fall 2017 clinic! See you in Spring of 2018!
Each Fall we offer two day stock dog training clinics here at our ranch. It is a fun informative weekend, full of
food, laughter, dogs and learning! ALL herding breeds and levels of training and experience are welcome! We have goats, light calves, and larger steers to work. We will explain how we introduce our young dogs to stock, begin basic working commands and then address any training issues and suggestions for dogs that are older and farther along in their training. The clinics are approached in a comfortable, fun, and down to earth way! It is often amazing to see how quickly the dogs will progress! It is a great time to discover a new hobby, bond with your dog and other dog lovers, as well as introduce your young dog to stock. It is also GREAT for older dogs that need to correct a few training issues or progress to the next level.

I just wanted to tell you what a fantastic time we had this weekend! The advise and encouragement I got from Steve and Gene was invaluable. I can't thank them enough! The work that you put into this clinic to make us feel like family could be seen everywhere.Thank you again! You guys are truly the best. - Paul E. |
Good food, good friends and awesome dogs!!! Can't beat a weekend like that!! So very happy to see the progress that [my dog] has made and couldn't be happier with my little Rockstar puppy who was trying to work goats like a big dog already!!! Thanks Steve Wight and Sheri Wight for hosting such a fun event! - Andrea C. |
" I took my dog Allie and was so excited to learn how to train her. Steve and Levi took the barn floor with confidence and pride. It was amazing watching Steve work Levi. It was so cold that day, but Steve never quite. He didn't care how many dogs showed up and he didn't have any set time limits for each dog or a quitting time. He was willing to work dogs until every dog and owner had been worked and issues addressed.I watched Steve take a little dog barking and running and blowing stock up to a dog that worked quietly, slowly and methodically. He taught the dog in a matter of minutes how to use her brain. It was amazing to watch dogs transform. Another dog had confidence issues going between a wall or fence and stock. Steve worked with the dog knowing the right timing to push the dog through the hole between the stock and the wall and the dog blossomed. Steve thinks like a border collie and it's very apparent. A teenage brought a young pup that wouldn't stop barking or pulling on the leash. As soon as Steve held the leash and "growled" at the pup he was immediately respected and the pup quite barking and tugging on the leash. I was extremely disappointed that my Allie would rather "chase butterflies" than sheep. Instead of pouting and leaving I stayed and watched. My feet were frozen and there were much warmer places to be, but I stayed. I didn't know what I was doing. I didn't know how to be the pack leader. I didn't know how to make my dog blossom, so I watched. I wish I could have videoed the clinic. The following day I brought my dog Crow. Steve probably spent 10 minutes with me and Crow in the pen. The issue I had with Crow is that he would always go "Come By." Steve corrected the dog, of course he got his exercise to do so. Steve told me if I put Crow in a pen and made him do it correctly he would do it every time. He was right! I started working Crow in the pen and for the first time in the 4 years I had been working Crow he started fetching again. I learned how to discipline him and make him do as he was commanded, but also allow him to take control of the stock. Ever since that clinic I have really wanted a pup to train and strive for the quality of "Levi." I've watched many videos and followed FB posts on Border Collie Cow Dogs. I've ordered books and read them and applied their training techniques. Steve was spot on with everything I have read." - Shirley S.
